What is the best age to start your child in piano lessons?
Each kid has different maturity so it is not our place to determine the right age for your child to start piano lessons. Our teachers are experienced in teaching younger kids as young as three. We believe when the kids know their letters, numbers and slowly gaining their proficiency in reading, it is a good time for lessons. Our main goal is to have the kids enjoying playing piano instead of feeling like they are being forced to learn.
How long does the lesson take?
Normally, beginners start with 30min. However, it would be ideal for some older beginners or intermediate students to do 45min. Eventually, most of advanced students need 60min since the music is longer and more challenging, and they'd need more time to polish it.
Do we need a piano at home before the lessons?
Yes, you do! All the lessons are in-home lessons so you will need a piano or keyboard. If you do not have one yet, we highly recommend purchasing an instrument with weighted and 88-keys. Feel free to reach out to us for a brand recommendation.
How often and how long should your child practice?
The answer varies depending on the age of the students. We encourage our students to have a consistent practice in each week instead of timing on the length. Ideally, we want the students to do enough repetition and focus on accomplishing weekly goals set during the lesson. Eventually, piano practice needs to be build up over time as they progress in each level.
What if I want to do trial first before committing to the whole semester?
We do offer a trial lesson for new students if requested with our one time lesson rate. Please contact us to schedule your trial lesson.
Could we request a teacher?
We try our best to accommodate your request. However, it is subject to our teachers' availability. If we cannot accommodate your request, you will be placed to another teacher in the studio.
What are your rates?
We do not publish our lesson rates online. Please reach out to us to learn more about our lesson rates for this academic year.
How do we pay for the lessons?
We accept Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, Check, or Online ACH transfers. Our tuition fees are billed on monthly basis. Invoice will be sent before the first lesson of every month.
Will there be any recitals?
Yes, we believe that performing is also part of learning experience and gives students confidence with their playing skills. We have two recitals per year, one in December and one in June. Our Winter recital emphasizes the collaboration aspect of piano playing, where the students will be performing with their friends, families or professional musicians that we provide.
What are my responsibilities as a parent when my child is taking lessons?
We believe parent involvement is also key part of students' success. In our studio, we encourage a healthy relationship between parents, students and teachers. As teacher, we will be setting our weekly goals during the lessons. We also have practice challenges each semester to motivate them. As for parents, we need their involvement on setting a routine for piano practice to ensure that students are reaching their weekly goals. Learning music is like learning a sport, the more you practice, the better you get!
